About me
Carmella Berthia is a music educator, curriculum designer, and arts leader dedicated to culturally sensitive and trauma-informed popular music education. She is presently the piano and modern band instructor at Curie High School in Chicago, where she inspires various student artists with contemporary performance, songwriting, and digital music creation. Carmella is a Google Certified Educator, an Arts Teacher Leader at Chicago Public Schools, and an active participant in community-centered music programs, new technology integration, and SEL-aligned instructional design. Her research and practice are centered on how popular music education can enhance student identity, foster creative confidence, and transform classrooms into welcoming spaces of belonging and artistic expression. She gives national presentations to help educators design music programs that value each learner's voice.
