About me
Dr. Kevin Coyne is a public-school music teacher in Massachusetts with more than 25 years of experience. A graduate of Berklee College of Music, he also holds a master’s degree in music technology from Indiana University and a doctoral degree in music education from Boston University. Throughout his career, Kevin has taught a wide range of subjects—from elementary general music to middle school chorus, high school guitar, and concert and jazz band. His primary focus, however, has been middle school general music, where he integrates technology and popular music practices to inspire students toward lifelong music-making.Beyond the classroom, Kevin has led after-school and summer popular music programs for middle and high school students. He has also taught music technology and popular music pedagogy courses at Boston University, Kent State University, and Gordon College. An active guitarist, Kevin performs professionally in the Boston area. His research centers on student motivation in popular music ensembles, with broader interests in popular music practices, music technology, and motivation in the classroom.
